It was important to me that they share certain qualities which would bring unity to the program. All four compositions are, to a degree, programmatic, and each contains ornaments which are typical of the age. Choosing a program which would exhibit many different aspects of ornamentation was of primary concern to me as I had done research regarding the proper execution of ornaments and, therefore, wanted music which could demonstrate my findings.
