The input???output relationship for the LVA is shown to be a combination linear and logarithmic (Lin-log) one rather than a true logarithmic function. The possible types of lin-log transitions are discussed, and their effects on the input-output relationship are examined. Definitions and terminology pertaining to LVA???s are presented. Four types of LVA mechanizations are examined.
