Reading habits, confinement and class relations: reading form in contemporary Brazil

This article proposed a comparative analysis of five articles published on the Internet between the end of April and May 2020. They all have in common the objective of presenting tips for the promotion of reading habits in children considering the context of confinement required by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our purpose is to investigate the underlying conceptions of reading, reader, mediator and mediation in these texts, inserting them in the framework of a social perspective of reading, which takes into account class relations in contemporary Brazil. The analysis leads us to reflect on the meanings of fetish concepts, such as the pleasure of reading, and requires a revision of the relevance of the bourgeois model of reader to explain the Brazilian reality.O presente artigo pretende analisar comparativamente cinco matérias veiculadas na internet entre o final de abril e maio de 2020 e que têm em comum o objetivo de apresentar dicas para a promoção do hábito de leitura em crianças no contexto de confinamento exigido pela pandemia da Covid-19. Nosso propósito é investigar nos referidos textos as concepções subjacentes de leitura, leitor, mediador e mediação, inserindo-as no esquadro de uma perspectiva social da leitura, que leva em consideração as relações de classe no Brasil contemporâneo. A análise nos conduz à reflexão sobre os sentidos de conceitos-fetiche, como o prazer de ler, e exige uma revisão sobre a pertinência do modelo burguês de leitor para explicar a realidade brasileira
