THE POWER OF THE RINGS : ESSAYS ON EARLY MIDDLE AGES FINGER ORNAMENTS. An archaeological approach to objects from southwest Gaul

[position de thèse] Thèse de doctorat en sciences archéologiques dirigée par la professeure Isabelle Cartron soutenue le vendredi 14 décembre 2018 à l'université Bordeaux Montaigne. Le but premier de ce travail doctoral était de contribuer à la connaissance du paysage archéologique du sud-ouest de la Gaule pour répondre à l’étude proposée par Reine Hadjadj, en travaillant principalement sur les bagues et les anneaux du haut Moyen Âge. Objets de parure et de vêture, les bijoux sublimant les corps représentent un champ d’étude fécond qui permet de documenter les cultures matérielles des sociétés du passé, de la vie quotidienne aux évènements sociaux. Le vêtement et la parure ont ici été envisagés comme des systèmes de représentations signifiantes, ce qui a permis d'apporter une contribution à la théorie de l'archéologie des objets.[thesis position] Doctoral Ph.D. thesis in archaeological sciences supervised by Professor Isabelle Cartron defended on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the University Bordeaux Montaigne. The main purpose of this research was to contribute to the knowledge of the archaeological landscape of south-western Gaul in order to complete the study proposed by Reine Hadjadj, working mainly on rings from the early Middle Ages. Objects of adornment and clothing, jewels sublimates the body and represents a fertile field of study that makes it possible to document the material cultures of past societies, from daily life to social events. Clothing and adornment have been considered here as systems of signifying representations, which has made it a contribution to the theory of object archaeology
