Melton (May 11, 1901-October 13, 1967?) was a leader in the Arkansas agriculture industry for 30 years. He served as a state senator (1953-1959) and held many other leadership positions in a variety of community and religious organizations. He won several awards, such as "Arkansas Farmer of the Year" (1954, Arkansas Farmer magazine) and "Outstanding Man of the Year" (1961, Arkansas Democrat poll) among others. He is believed to have died in a plane crash on a solo trip en route to Dallas
