Naujienų portalų antraščių vertimų iš anglų kalbos į lietuvių kalbą analizė

The topic of this paper is the analysis of English-Lithuanian headline translations in online news portals. The main goal of this thesis is to identify challenges caused by the changes in online news portals’ headline structure and vocabulary in English to Lithuanian translations and to identify the main translation strategies used to tackle these issues. To conduct this research, works of previous scholars were reviewed for general understanding of the concept of a headline, its structure, and traditional conventions. Then, several scholarly papers on modern headline conventions like click-bait, as well as structural and vocabulary changes previously observed, were reviewed. Translation strategies by Peter Newmark (1988) and Mona Baker (1992) were reviewed in order to find the best approach to overcome the obstacles caused by the changes in headline translation. Once a sufficient background was built, the paper by Hasan Rasul (PhD) titled “Translation of News Headlines: A Case of English Headlines Rendered into Arabic, Kurdish and Persian (2018)” was reviewed. The methods of translations analysis that were provided in his paper were used to analyse online news portals headline translation from English to Lithuanian to recognize potential translation issues caused by the changing conventions, and to find the best possible translation strategies to overcome them. During the research, it was found that click-bait was present not only in the source language headlines, but in target text headlines too. What was more surprising is that the target language headlines were often turned into click-bait headlines where the said phenomena were not observed in the source language counterpart. Furthermore, translation by paraphrase and word for word translations were found to be the most frequent translation strategies used by English to Lithuanian translators in the analysed instances. The conclusion was drawn that there are noticeable changes in headline formulation, structure, and vocabulary used that pose significant difficulties for translators.Šio tiriamojo darbo tema yra skaitmeninių naujienų portalų antraščių iš anglų kalbos į lietuvių kalbą vertimo analizė. Darbe analizuojami antraščių vertimo pokyčiai, sukelti masinės kompiuterizacijos bei žiniasklaidos priemonių kėlimosi į skaitmeninę erdvę. Pagrindinis tezės tikslas – rasti šių faktorių sukeltus pokyčius antraštėse vartojamoje leksikoje ir struktūroje, bei identifikuoti jų sukeltus sunkumus atliekant šių antraščių vertimą iš anglų kalbos į lietuvių kalbą, bei išanalizuoti sunkumus įveikti naudojamas vertimo strategijas. Sėkmingam tiriamojo darbo vykdymui bei antraščių, jų struktūrų ir standartų supratimui buvo apžvelgti prieš tai vykdyti tiriamieji darbai bei analizės. Palyginimui buvo padaryta naujųjų antraščių standartų, tokių kaip vadinamasis „click-bait“, struktūriniai ir leksikos pakitimai. Norint rasti geriausią būdą pokyčių sukeltiems sunkumams įveikti, buvo padaryta vertimo strategijų pagal Peter Newmark (1988) ir Mona Baker (1992) apžvalga. Sukūrus pakankamą pradinę informacinę bazę, buvo išanalizuotas Dr. Prof. Hasan Rasul darbas pavadinimu „Translation of News Headlines: A Case of English Headlines Rendered into Arabic, Kurdish and Persian (2018)”. Šiame darbe nurodyti vertimo analizės metodai buvo panaudoti atpažinti potencialius vertimo sunkumus bei jų sprendimo būdus. Kiek antrasčių išanalizuota? Tyrimo metu buvo pastebėta, kad vadinamasis „clickbait“ fenomenas yra matomas ne tik originalo kalbos antraštėse, bet ir jų vertimuose. Buvo pastebėta, kad dažnai antraščių, kurių originale nėra randama „click-bait“ požymių, vertimuose, šie požymiai atsiranda. Perfrazavimas bei pažodinis vertimas buvo nustatytos kaip dažniausiai iš analizuotų pavyzdžių naudotos vertimo strategijos. Tyrimo metu nustatyta, kad antraštėse pastebimi žymūs nukrypimai nuo nusistovėjusių normų: verčiant, keičiamos jų formuluotės, struktūra ir leksika, o tai vertėjams kelia nemažų iššūkių.Humanitarinių mokslų fakultetasUžsienio kalbų, literatūros ir vertimo studijų katedr
