Published following an event whose intent was to reexamine the concept of “tableau vivant” (living display), this catalogue documents performances and installations by some 12 Canadian and American artists. Curators Fisher and Drobnick present the project as an opportunity for exploring contemporary debates about the body. They examine each work in relation to themes of the body as a material entity, a vehicle for interpretations and a signifier of identity, while highlighting its relation to leisure, labour, ritual activities, institutional discourses and voyeurism. Includes descriptive and/or poetic texts by each artist. Biographical notes on artists and curators. Texts in French and English. 8 bibl. ref
