James Mayne and Mary Emelia Mayne are the principal benefactors of the University of Queensland. Together they gave 693 acres (280 ha) at Moggill, now known as Pinjarra Hills, for agricultural education in 1923. Following this substantial donation they negotiated with the Brisbane City Council to pay over £63,000 for the resumption of more than 200 acres (81 ha) of land at St Lucia. They also ensured the University's long term financial security by gifting revenues from several business properties for on-going research.
