Mary Emelia Mayne, in association with her brother Dr James O'Neil, provided over £50,000 to the Brisbane City Council to resume 274 acres of land at St Lucia and provide it to the University as its permanent home. She and her brother also donated 280 hectares of land at Pinjarra Hills, now the site of the Veterinary Science Farm. Their estates continue to benefit the university, most significantly through purchase of equipment and material for the University of Queensland Mayne Medical School
