Regional students the focus of new Nursing scholarship

John Honner, a retired farmer from Narrogin, has made another significant contribution to The University of Notre Dame Australia and its School of Nursing and Midwifery. Mr Honner has donated $100,000 to the University to establish an Endowed Scholarship at the Fremantle Campus in honour of his late parents. The Clem and Rita Honner Perpetual Scholarship aims to assist a student from regional Western Australia who wishes to commence their undergraduate studies in either the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing (Major in Mental Health), or Bachelor of Nursing (Major in Palliative Care) courses at Notre Dame in Fremantle. The scholarship is open to current school leavers whose permanent home address is at least 160km from the Perth CBD. It will be awarded at the beginning of 2012 by the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Mr Honner is a long and distinguished benefactor to Notre Dame. Most recently, he funded the Justin John Honner Scholarship - a three-year undergraduate Nursing degree for students living in the State’s central South West region in memory of his late son Justin. The University of Notre Dame Australia is Australia’s only private Catholic University. Its Nursing graduates are highly regarding in their field due to the University’s commitment to offering students intensive practicum experiences.
