This final report documents the phases construction, operation and use of the small satellite BREM-SAT I which were aimed at proving that it is possible to design, build, qualify and operate a satellite under the overall control of a university detached from conventional management structures. For this purpose, under control of the Center for Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) in cooperation with private industry companies, in early 1989 an application for the construction of a scientific small satellite was submitted to the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).
