The project AUTARK was aimed at developing novel energy-self-sufficient identification systems, particularly for the three authorized ISM frequencies 134 kHz, 433 MHz, and 2,45 GHz. Within this project ASE/Phototronics has developed and provided thin-film solar modules based on amorphous silicon (a-Si) as self-sufficient energy supply for these so-called microsystems (transponders). All 3 demonstrator transponders developed by the consortium were equipped with suitable solar modules, which also required the successful development of transparent conductive ZnO front contact layers on thin glass.
