PEESEN1 tair Ef fGibbons, Howard* MIMOTBS OF THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE BUDGET The Secretary reported that out of a budget of 40 LIU ,for maintenance 34*309 LIU had been spent to date and that with a budget of 10*000 w • -w W A—-' W ^ *-^ f-’ W ** V V w ^ »» ^ w ^ v for books and 15*000 LE. for S.O.S. books l.LE* had been spent on the former budget and 24*133 on the latter* It was voted that the S*0.S. deficit should be cared for by any funds that might remain in the special Carnegie appropriation for the S.O.S*, and, failing in that source, that the remainder in the first budget for books be used to clear the S.O.S. deficit* It was voted that the ~ecretary should secure from the Bursar the itemized budget for the carrying on of the library and that this budget should be incorporated in the minutes* It was the-opinion of the Committee that the current budget should be continued. ARABIC BOOKS ON CARNEGIE ITT ID ♦ Mr. Cleland reported concerning the ordering' of Arabic books* It was announced that out of a credit of 191.098LEi there remains 66*608 LE. to be spent for additional Arabic books and binding* already ordered. A statement was requested from him and Kamal Eff. to be included in the librarian’s report. &ir. Cleland is chairman, to assist in preparation of further lists ©f Arabic books. Who’s Who. Dr. Watson offered to the library back numbers of the American Who’s 'Who* The gift was accepted with thanks. SOCIAL SCIENCE ENCYCLOPEDIA* It was voted to apply the balance left of the amount paid for stray Carnegie books to purchasing further copies of the Social Science Encyclopedia and to subscribe at the same time for succeeding copies. The secretary reported 23*14 IE* as being on hand• GIBBON’S VACATION* Mr. Gibbons’ request to Council that he be allowed to' leave for vacation the first of June was approved by the Committee. It was voted that Dr. Jeffery be furnished with a ke£ to the library so that he would meet with no inconvenience by a closing of the library in the afternoons during June. CARNEGIE FUND* xhe secretary brought -co the attention of the Committee the fac¥ of the books originally ordered from the Carnegie lists some sixty-one have never been reoeived and that raises the question whether there may not be still some money remaining from the original gift.
