After a lengthy discussion, the following motions were made, seconded and carried: 1. To instruct the By-laws Amendment Committee that it is the strong wish of the Faculty that the positions of the Assistant Director of the Division of Public Services, the University Business Manager and the Director of the University Press be included in the appropriate article under Section I A of the By-Laws» 2. Meanwhile, to invite to membership in the Faculty Dr. George D. Russell, Mr. Charles C. Dold and Mr. Galal El Din El Hamamsy. Dr. Namani also reported that the By-laws Amendment Committee had reached no decision on certain proposed amendments regarding membership of the Publications Committee of the University Press. 329« REPORT FROM THE ACADEMIC BOARD ADD THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL: President Bartlett reported briefly on the work of the Academi< Board, and suggested that the University Council will be meeting to discuss a number of important policy questions. 330, REPORT FROM THE DEAN OF THE FACULTIES: Dean Shane reported that the following topics will be under discussion this year in the Undergraduate and Graduate Committees and the Committee of Departmental Chairmen: 1. A review and revision of the collateral requirements of certain major programs (for example, economics-political science). 2. A. reevaluation and revision of the general requirements for the B.A. and B.Sc. degrees. 3. Possible new major programs (in business administration, history and physics-mathematics). 4. A restudy of residence requirements. 5. Expansion of scholarships. 6. Senior'seminars in each major program. . 7. An M*A. in American Literature. 8. Further improvement of academic standards throughout the undergraduate program. 9. A reevaluation of admission and registration procedures. 10. Schedules and text-book orders for second semester. Dean Shane noted that decisions on some or all of the above should be made by February 1 if they are to be included in our new catalog issue. 331.
