5. Retirement Policy: There was a general discussion of the proposed changes to the retirement policy. The Committee agreed that the issues raised should be examined in detail in preparation for a final decision at the May Board meeting. 6. AUC Associates: The Committee gave conditional approval to the general guidelines for the Associates which were presented. These guidelines and the activities of the Associates will be reviewed at the annual Cairo Board meeting in 1989. 7. Service Requests Beyond Age 65: The following faculty were recommended to the Committee for extension of contracts for one year beyond age 65: Ms. Gloria Karnouk Dr. Osman Farag Dr. Mark Kennedy Dr. Marsden Jones Dr. Martin Ochs Library Psychology Sociology Arabic Studies Mass Communication The Committee approved the extens ions as recommended . 8. Relations with Alexandria, Kuwait, and the U.A.E.: The President advised the Committee of a number of requests for assistance and cooperation which the University has recently received: * While visiting in the Arabian Gulf, Dr. Pedersen was asked if AUC could provide assistance in estab­lishing an American university in Ajman. * A private University in Kuwait has ask for AUC's help. The nature of the assistance needed will be explored with Mr. Khorusin of Kuwait. * The head of the Businessmen's Association in Alexandri a and the former President of Alexandria Univer sity have approached the University for help in setting up a private university.
