AUC Non-Involvement in Political Matters - Dr. Pedersen said that in the present environment it was advisable for the Trustees to reaffirm their policy on political non-involvement. That policy is as follows: "AUC refrains from taking part in, or allowing use of its facilities for involvement in, religious or political activities." Negative Press - The President informed the Board that again this year AUC has been subject to an uncomfortable amount of negative press. Some of the articles were fully fabricated with the objective of identifying AUC with Israel. Others were highly distorted accounts, chiefly in Sawt El Arab, about real matters in AUC, most in the Buildings and Grounds area. Counsellor of the University - Dr. Pedersen reported that the Minister of Education, with the approval of the Executive Committee of the Board and the University, appointed Dr. Mohamed Nagy Shatla as Counsellor of AUC as of February 1, 1988. Dr. Shatla replaces Dr. Hussein Fawzy who has ably served the University since 1971. Fund Raising - In the coming years fund raising efforts will have to be focused on two different objectives. One is the Annual Fund which will need to be raised from a current level of about $1 million to $2 million. The second is in the area of special gifts where first priority has been given to raising at least $1.3 million for the dormitory.
