Division of Public Service: The Chairman reported that, in general, the adult education programs of the Division of Public Service were larger and better coordinated in spite of a drop in overall DPS enrollment from 9600 to 9300. DPS enrollment is expected to increase in the fall of 1984, due, in part, to the expansion of DPS to a suburb of Cairo (Heliopolis) where there is considerable demand. The costs of these programs are increasing, however, and the surplus is decreasing. It may be necessary to raise fees for DPS programs. CIT had a very successful year in 1982/83 and is continuing to expand. The Committee felt that more programs in the business skills area would be useful. AUC Press: The AUC Press is off to a good start under its new Director, Mr. W. Mark Linz. Revenues are increasing and the deficits are being reduced. The Printshop is in the process of moving to new quarters under the terrace of the new Library . The Division of Management Development (Jameel Center): The training programs of the DMD were well-managed under the direction of Professor Farouk El Hitami. Twenty-eight different courses were offered during the 1982/83 academic year for 1329 students. These included 19 programs to 823 trainees in the Executive Development Program, 3 programs to 225 officers of the Egyptian Armed Forces, 4 contractural programs to 239 trainees from 4 different industries, and 2 courses to 42 trainees in the AID-funded GOFI program. Total revenue from all of these programs was nearly LE 460,000. After subtracting all costs plus AUC overhead, these activities generated a surplus of LE 80,000 - a larger surplus than gained in any previous year. Part of this surplus will be put into Plant Fund to support research and development in the Division. 9. Report of the LE Investment Committee: Mr. Wadsworth. Mr. Hyde has now replaced Mr. Stone as a partner in the University Educational Endowment Fund. Because any conflict of interest has now been removed, discussions will be held with AID in Cairo to determine whether the review of potential investments could be performed by the local AID offices.
