, , I I I -3- The New York Office - Recent events have clearly demonstrated that it is essential for the Trustees to be more fully informed and involved in all phases of University activities. As the above para­graphs demonstrate, our responsibilities are multiplying in number and complexity and we are being held increasingly accountable. This trend will probably continue given the increasing demands on AUC for services, and our need to pay our own way and become less dependent on others, especially the U.S. Government. To better serve the Trustees in this regard, the New York office is being strengthened and reorganized. Moving the University to a New Location - Every few years since I have been associated with the Board the idea has arisen of selling the present campus and moving the University to the outskirts of Cairo. Dr. Byrd has raised the issue again. Consequently at the May Board meeting an Ad Hoc committee under the Chairmanship of Professor Bacon was established to look into the matter. Any view on the subject should be communicated to him. Dollar Development - Provost Burt Wallace is meeting with Japanese corporate officials and trade organizations in Tokyo to discuss a capital gift to AUC. OVer the past three months, we have been negotiating for a contribution of $1,350,000 for a faculty endowment ($750,000), new faci­lities for Arabic language instruction ($500,000), and equipment ($100,000). Cairo Museum Relabelling Project - Trustee Bob Devine spent two weeks in Cairo recently pursuing the project to relabel exhibits at the Cairo Museum. As you know, this project is being carried out under the joint auspices of AUC and the Museum and is made possible by a gift from Mrs. Lila Acheson Wallace. Mr. Devine is also on the verge of completing arrangements for a spe­cial evening showing during the third week of October for AUC Trustees and guests of the new Egyptian wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
