As the income level of our faculty increases, general levels of living also rise; the furniture we have rented to faculty in the past is becoming Inadequate and we shall need to move to a slightly more expensive line. This pattern of increased University commitments for housing and furniture for faculty will continue in future years since so ma~ our non-UAR faculty are "short-termers" who should not bring furniture with them. It is not in the University1s interest to have them rent and furnish their own housing independently, assuming that were possible, because of the time and energy which would be deflected from their professional activities. Hence we are going to be increasingly in the house-and-furniture business. C) Building Program: we are now completing our plans for development of the campus site. The main lines of these plans are familiar to the B~ and will be presented in detail during this meeting. This plan, which in essence consists of adding the science building, the class-room building and the Student Services Center '0 our present facilities together with some incidental remodeli_g, should give us adequate space for a student body of 1250 of which a third should be graduate students. In ad.ition we plan to have space for at least four research institutes and an extensive program in teaching English and Arabic as languages. The key structure in providing the space we need is the class-room building which will be a large, plane slab containing 53 class· rooms and 48 offices.
