This new building, for which we are paying an un­usually low rent, Increases substantially our faculty housing resources for next year. The Increase in the number of overseas fellows end junior faculty poses a separate housing problem and will make It necessary for us to increase the number of low rent units we have available in Cairo near the University. 'Insofar as' ou'r funds' will allow, we .wll1 act vigorously .to secure them. The Board should be aware of our actions since there could be an element of risk involved In leasing apart­ments on, for example, three year leases which thereby commit the University to a future expenditure. I have gone ahead with such leases because I have felt it a limited and necessary risk. It is difficult to imagine circumstances changing so rapidly within the next two years that the University would have difficulty subletting apartments which for some unforeseen reason It no longer needed. In the near future we should put into operation our plans for dormitory or hostel housing for overseas undergraduate students. We had taken steps to do so early in the fall but the building we had rented was taken over by a Government agency for office space. We are seeking a suitable alternative. 4) Budget: In separate papers Board members will find final figures for our 1962-63 budget and final estimates for 1963-64. These figures are presented in alternative forms in order to give Board members different ways of analyz­ing our pattern of expenditures and income. The Division of Public Services: In my preliminary report I was not able to include Information on the Division of Public Services which consists chiefly of the program of evening courses.
