It could be four stories high, and contain faculty offices as well as class-rooms. B. Reconstruction, for administration center. It is proposed, after the student services center has been com­pleted, that the front portion of the main center building be reconstructed for administrative use. Preliminary drawings by the University architect indicate that this can be done with ef­ficiency and inexpensively. If this conversion is made, all the general administration of the University would be centered in this area. This would include offices for the President, Vice­president, Comptroller, Admissions and Registration, (adjacent to the Student Services offices in the new student center build­ing), Public Relations offices and the Division of Extension (Public Services). The offices of the Dean of the Undergraduate Faculty could also come to this central area. Offices for the Dean of the Graduate Faculty (if separate deans for the two facilities are continued), the School of Oriental Studies, and the Social Re­search Center would remain in the graduate faculty area. This conversion would not only allow better space for the ad­ministrative functions concerned, but would bring them into close physical relationship, and thus greatly increase efficiency in operation. As it is now, the offices mentioned are scattered over the University. The release of the office space for class-room use would also greatly increase efficiency for use in teaching. C. Student and Faculty housing. Except for a dozen faculty apartments rented in the name of the University and made available for faculty families, and for a block rental arrangement with the YWCA for housing for ten women students, the University has no housing accommoda­tions. While the University is and will doubtless continue to be a "city" institution, with most students and staff being respon­sible for their own housing, certain accommodations are becom­ing increasingly important. Controlled housing for a minimum of fifty women students and for some one hundred men would enable the University to meet certain requests that it cannot now meet.
