Mr. dear Dr. Watson: It gives me much pleasure to state that our Board of Foreign Missions at its full meeting took definite action yesterday with regard to the proposals before it looking to cooperation in the Cairo Christian University. The action taken took the following form: "The Board accepts the plan for the selection of Trustees of the Cairo Christian University presented by Rev. C.R. Watson in his letter of Dec. 7, 1914, but with the request that instefd of twice the number only the exact number to be elected be presented for its approval." Our Board seemed to feel that it would be less embarrassing to decide upon each name presented'rather than to make select-ions between two. In the event of a name being presented not :::eeting our approval the Board could then ask for another nomination. This con-tingency is naturally not likely to arise. Should it do so we could meet it in this way. Since your letter referred to in the resolution was somewhat informal in nature may I accompany the action of the Board with the formal statement of our understanding of the proposals contained in it. "A letter was received from Rev. C.R. Watson, Sec-retary Board of Trustees, Cairo Christian University, Dec. 7, communicat-ing action taken at the first meeting of the Trustees making the follow-ing provisions for the proposed cooperation of Mission Boards in this project: "1. The Trustees of Cairo University will nominate to each of the cooperating Foreign Mission Boards twice the number of Trustees to be elected by them subject to each said Board's approval." "2. Each Foreign Board will then indicate its approval and selection." "3. The Board of Trustees of Cairo University will then elect these selected and approved members." "It is clearly understood that the cooperating Boards will not be held responsible for the finances or policies of the institution, the desire of the Trustees of the Cairo University being that the cooperat- `l
