The purpose of this thesis is to create understanding on the formation of material based carbon footprint of office buildings. The research has concentrated on the possibilities of influencing the carbon footprint of an office building by means of design choices prior to its construction and use. The calculations for the research were conducted with the help of an internet based application designed for analysing material based carbon footprints. During the course of the study, analysis was conducted for three possible design structures of the same building.
