Analyysi kunnostettujen laivadieselmoottoreiden luokitusvaatimuksista

In the past few years it has come apparent that reconditioned and modernised used engines are products with rising importance to engine manufacturers and for several reasons these engines are interesting to different types of customers. Engines for reconditioning can be originated from power plants or from other vessels. A wide variety of engines with different conditions and histories can be used. The marine application of these engines means that certification of those engines according to classification society's rules is required. The classification society Det Norske Veritas has not had specific instructions concerning certification of these types of engines. This is why this study was started. The aim was to find a systematic approach in examining the status of the engine and determining the classification requirements for the engine manufacturer. Ultimately the aim of the study was to gather understandable and applicable criteria for the selection and acceptance of the engines for reconditioning and create a basis for instructions for their surveying. The most important goal was to determine the critical components of the engine which have to be examined thoroughly. The criticality here means criticality with respect to the engine's reliability and safety. Other factors having possible effect on the certification such as the requirements of the International Maritime Organization were examined as well. In order to determine the most critical components of the engine with respect to reliability and safety it is imperative to have information on the risks concerning internal combustion engine process. The mapping of these risks was decided to be done based on a risk analysis. The chosen analysis method was the Failure Methods, Effects and Criticality Analysis, FMECA. The criticality of the component was determined as a product of three parameters: failure frequency, traceability and severity of consequences. The failure frequencies were determined based on a statistical analysis of engine damage reports. The other two were concluded based on the engine's operation and construction. The analysis produced direct quantitative results on the criticality of the components. Based on these results and the examination of existing rules and guidelines as well as general practises the classification requirements for the reconditioned engines were determined. These include requirements for testing and reconditioning methods as well as documentation. The results of the FMECA were very similar to expectations which were based on interviews of some experts. As a final result for the study a flow chart representing the classification process was formed. This chart included all the major issues discovered in the study. In addition specific details such as requirements for each component were listed in tables.Viime vuosien aikana on käynyt ilmeiseksi, että kunnostetut ja modernisoidut käytetyt moottorit ovat tuotteita, joiden merkitys moottorivalmistajille on kasvussa. Kyseiset moottorit ovat kiinnostavia erityyppisille asiakkaille lukuisista syistä. Kunnostettavat moottorit voivat olla peräisin voimalaitoksista tai toisista aluksista. Käytettävien moottoreiden kunnossa ja käyttöhistoriassa voi olla suuria eroja. Kyseisten moottoreiden asentaminen laivoihin edellyttää niiden luokittamista luokituslaitoksen sääntöjen mukaisesti. Luokituslaitos Det Norske Veritaksella ei ole ollut tarkkaa ohjeistusta kyseisten tyyppisten moottoreiden luokittamisesta. Tämä tutkimus aloitettiin tästä syystä. Tavoitteena oli kehittää systemaattinen lähestymistapa moottorin kunnon arviointiin ja luokitusvaatimusten asettamiseen. Perimmäisenä tavoitteena oli kehittää yksinkertaiset ja soveltuvat kriteerit kunnostettavien moottoreiden valintaan ja hyväksyntään, sekä luoda pohja niiden luokittamisen ohjeistukselle. Kaikkein tärkein päämäärä tutkimuksessa oli määrittää moottorin kriittiset komponentit, joiden tarkastelun on oltava perinpohjainen. Tässä yhteydessä kriittisyydellä tarkoitetaan kriittisyyttä suhteessa moottorin luotettavuuteen ja turvallisuuteen. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa huomioitiin myös muut mahdolliset tekijät kuten kansainvälisen merenkulkujärjestön IMO:n vaatimukset. Luotettavuuden ja turvallisuuden kannalta kriittisten komponenttien selvittämiseksi on oltava tietoinen riskeistä, jotka liittyvät polttomoottoriprosessiin. Nämä riskit päätettiin kartoittaa riskianalyysilla. Analyysimenetelmäksi valittiin niin kutsuttu Failure Methods, Effects and Criticality Analysis, FMECA. Komponentin kriittisyys määritettiin kolmen parametrin tulona. Nämä parametrit olivat vaurion todennäköisyys, havaittavuus sekä seurausten vakavuus. Vaurioiden todennäköisyys selvitettiin tilastollisella analyysillä. Kaksi muuta parametria määritettiin moottorin toiminnan ja rakenteen pohjalta. Analyysi tuotti suoraan kvantitatiivisia tuloksia komponenttien kriittisyydestä. Luokitusvaatimukset kunnostetuille moottoreille määritettiin perustuen näihin tuloksiin sekä olemassa olevien sääntöjen, ohjeistusten ja yleisen käytännön pohjalta. Näihin vaatimuksiin sisältyy edellytykset koestukselle, kunnostusmenetelmille ja dokumentoinnille. FMECA-analyysin tulokset noudattivat hyvin tarkkaan ennakko-odotuksia, jotka muodostettiin haastattelemalla asiantuntijoita. Tutkimuksen lopullisena tuloksena muodostettiin vuokaavio, joka esittää tutkitun luokitusprosessin. Kaikki tutkimuksessa havaitut ja määritetyt pääkohdat sisällytettiin kaavioon.
