The area of the District is largely devoted to agricultural uses, including approximately 48,000 acres of irrigated farmland, but it also includes most of the City of Stockton and the urbanized area surrounding the City. In the past the District has utilized the Old Hogan Dam to conserve as much of the Calaveras River runoff as possible consistent with the use of Old Hogan Dam for maximum flood protection. The District now looks forward to contracting with the United States for the conservation water which will be available shortly from New Hogan Dam and Reservoir.
