There is, however, opportunity to develop over a million acre-feet of water in the Lower Colorado Basin under present conditions through certain salvage and construction operations. Such things involve additional storage for regulation of the Colorado River near Imperial Dam; river channel rectification along with accompanying phreatophyte control and ground-water recovery; and lining of existing canals, such as the Coachella, All-American, and Gila Gravity Canals. A program of this type would practically offset the diversion of slightly more than a million acre-feet into the Central Arizona area.
