"an old rock house." Strips of metal, sawed lumber and broken glass were found near it. A few modern names appear on the cliff wall on the extreme upper end of the bar, among them, "Walter Allen 1937," the same name as found at Wildhorse Bar (Historical site 27). Gunsight Bar is an extensive grazing area which had recently been occupied by cattle in March, 1959, though none were seen at that time. At the foot of a natural trail ascending to the platform 300 ft. above the river, there is a modern camping area located at about mile 35. The remains of two iron camp stoves, dimension lumber, and tin cans were noticed. The remains of a wagon have been reported on the bar but this was not located. There is no wagon road down to the bar from the platform above but there is a short length of crudely graded road approaching one of the gravel terraces. The trail climbs over naked rock most of the distance and tops out at the 3500 ft. level between two sandstone knobs. A cairn with the date "1891 MAY" on it has been reported at the head of the trail but this was not located. In an open area near the head of the trail a single wagon tire was found. About one-third of the way up the trail there are the remains of a wire fence stretched across the steep rock slope. This might have been sufficient to control livestock on the bar below. The possibility of a ford across the Colorado between the upper part of Gunsight Bar and the left bank upstream has been suggested in the notes under Historical site 100. Historical site 112 - Warm Creek Warm Creek is a right hand tributary of the Colorado occupying a position between two longer tributaries, Last Chance Creek (Historical site 99) to the east, and Wahweap Creek (Historical site 18) to the west. The middle portion of the drainage consists of an open valley, like that of its neighbors, but the last three or four miles of the stream runs through a deeply-entrenched canyon to enter the Colorado at mile 27.8. The canyon, however, consists of a fairly smooth sand and gravel bed which is traversable to the mouth by wagons, and by jeep under normal conditions. Bad quicksand develops following run-offs from showers. In the lower course of the canyon there is a perennial flow of excellent water. A crude trail used by the Domínguez-Escalante expedition in 1776 crosses the canyon about a mile above the mouth and in this area there has been some staking of mineral claims though there is no evidence of mining (Historical site 15).
