trails, and the like. The Arizona State Parks Board has plans for administration of the recreation features of the proposed projects. The emphasis at these four proposed reservoirs would be on providing facilities with high carrying capacity for day use and other short-term visits. The expected visitor use has been estimated on the basis of full utilization of the recreation potentials, rather than in terms of population projections only. However, the validity of the current population projections should be restudied, in view of the wide range of projections for Arizona. These vary from a low of less than 3 million to a high of 8 million for the year 2000. The projected population for Arizona, used by the Outdoor Recreation Resources Review Commission in its study of America's recreation resources and needs, is 2,144,000 for the year 1976 and 3,859,000 for the year 2000. Recreation Demands in the Southern California Area The State of California has recognized the fact that the expected large future population growth, especially in Southern California, will present an ever-increasing need for additional outdoor recreation areas and facilities. The State Park Commission feels that the Colorado River is second only to the Sacramento River as a source of water recreation opportunities for Californians.
