Sándor Bálint, the later professor of ethnography at the Szeged University, was bom in 1904 in Szeged-Lower town. His father died next year, so his mother brought him up alone in the religious, moral atmosphere of Szeged-Lower town. Later, as an ethnographer his patrimony became the research of his home town. His matrim ony was the people in Szeged, the region and the research of the Hungarian popular religiosity in European and historical connection. Sándor Bálint did not just research the Catholic faith but lived according to it mainly with his deep veneration of Virgin M ary and the love of his fellow-men.
