Kunszentmárton, situated on the River Hármas-Körös, is a settlement from the age of the kings of the House Arpad. First it was mentioned in the 13th Century. Bela IV. gave the village to the Cum ans. Under the Turkish occupation the Cumanian inhabitants scattered. The village was repopulated by Jazygian settlers from Jászapáti around 1719. The veneration of St. Martin is still alive: the settlement bears the name of the saint as well as its church which was built in 1784. The baroque altar-piece was made in 1789 by John Czirkler, a painter from Eger (the diocese centre), the apprentice of the famous John Lucas Kracker.
