Selected problems of translation from Russian to English based on the novel The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya

This thesis is an attempt to analyze selected semantic problems of translation from Russian to English based on the novel The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya. The aim of thesis is an attempt to show how translation theory works in practice. The key problem of analysis is the problem of equivalence. Author looks into translator’s solutions concerning this problem.Praca jest próbą analizy wybranych problemów semantycznych w tłumaczeniu rosyjsko-polskim na przykładzie powieści Kyś Tatiany Tołstoj. Celem jest pokazanie tego jak funkcjonuje teoria przekładu w praktyce. Kluczowym problemem analizy jest zagadnienie ekwiwalencji – autor zastanawia się nad tym czy tłumacz dobrze wybrał ekwiwalenty do poszczególnych rosyjskich wyrazów i związków frazeologicznych, czy znaczą to samo i czy dałoby się zrobić to lepiej. Poruszone zostaje również zagadnienie nieprzekładalności
