The "Easton" was built by the Sunderland Shipbuilding Company at Sunderland, Great Britain in 1912. She was owned until 1932 by the Mathews Steamship Company of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The following two years, she was owned by the Frederick C. Clarkson Receiver of Toronto, Ontario. From 1934 to 1951, she was owned by the Colonial Steamships, Ltd. of Port Colborne, Ontario. The Quebec, North Shore and Labrador Railway Company, Ltd. of Montreal, Quebec owned her from 1951 to 1960. The following year she was owned by the Commonwealth Scrap Metals of Montreal, and then, finally in 1961, by the Century Metal and Equipment Company, Ltd. of Montreal
