Symphony is a work for orchestra in three movements. It was conceived during the summer of 1992 and composed from September, 1992 to February 9, 1993, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The first movement is an allegro in ABA$\sp\prime$form. It introduces several key rhythmic and harmonic ideas for the work; principally an ostinato quintuplet figure, secondarily two complex sonorities. The second movement, which is the focal point of the work, is an original theme and six variations, all framed by a prologue and epilogue. This movement was inspired by a visit to the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam during July of 1992.
