Marie arrived in Darwin with her husband Trevor Bolitho who was transferred here as a manager of the Fire Fighting Enterprises in April 1978. They married in 1961 and have one daughter. Marie was invited along to the Darwin Y Women which began meeting after Cyclone Tracy. This was a support group for women to exchange ideas share information and give friendship to each other Marie became the convenor seven years for the group. Marie officially joined the YWCA in 1981 and the Darwin Y Women finished in 1985 when most women in Darwin joined the paid work force again.
