Since the field was turned back by the army, which allowed only scheduled airline flights to land here, the number of landings and takeoffs has soared to September's new high of 11,739. The figure showed a big increase over August's 11,342 and July's 9,570. Although new airline new schedules have added to the number, increased civilian traffic contributed most to the boost. landings and takeoffs of itinernat planes jumped from 1,836 in August to 2,098 in September, and local civilian flights increased from 7,226 to 7,358. To meet the big boost in business, the city nearly a year ago undertook a $120,000 remodeling program which pushed the sides of the building outward into the trim new lines above. Improvements include a much larger waiting room, new restaurant, additional offices and the baggage and mail building at right. With construction completed, workmen are now beginning a landscape beautification program. If traffic keeps increasing the port soon may have growing pains again.
