Antibiotic resistant bacteria are becoming more prevalent in the medical field. It is important to understand how it happens as well as what can be done to prevent it. This research project could potential provide a new antibiotic produced by a soil bacteria, that can be used to fight ESKAPE pathogens common in hospitals. During this project a soil sample was collected and diluted to produce more distinguishable bacterial colonies. Several colonies inhibiting nearby growth were chosen and tested against safe alternatives to the ESKAPE pathogens. The project has so shown how uncommon inhibitory bacteria can be and how difficult it can be to find new antibiotics.
