[3]from an operation for appendicitis. Ill call also on Johnson & Gilder & hope to see grand old Robin Hood.The Presidents personal letters - four of them. came today. Two of them are to our ambassadors at St Petersburg & Peking, one to whom it may concern calling in particular on all military & naval officers to assist us in every way possible etc. The other was to myself expressing his enjoyment of the Yosemite trip & his thanks in the heartiest[1][letterhead]May 25 [1903]Dear LouieI arrived in Boston at midnight on the 23d not very tired & went to nearby hotel. Next morning Robison Sargent came & took me out to this lovely home. All were glad to see me Last evening Sunday there was a large company at dinner The satchel you packed was here a day or two before me & my black suit had not a wrinkle in it & looked well among the other dress suits I suppose. I was glad03254 [2]for once to be [inconspicuous?] & shall I suppose have to wear such clothes often on this trip. Today I went to Boston & called at the Houghton Mufflin offices Had a long chat with Perry who called in Allen the naturalist & a lot of other writers so I had [quite?] a reception & lectured as usual on forest glaciers etc as to an audience. Then Mr Mifflin sent for me & the same thing went on in his office. They all want me to write write write. Tomorrow Ill buy the things I need & be ready to start for New York Thursday morning.
