Page 326 1889. Jan. 13. Sabbath. Foggy and cloudy. Have attended S. school. Received letters from Horace and his wife, Hannah, Willie and Calvin. Calvin does not board with Ada this term, because she has no good room for him. He boards at 112 Centre St. (T.S.R. 35. 2 P.M. 45. S.S. 43.) Jan. 14. Monday. Wrote to Mrs. Kelly and Rev. Mason. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 48. S.S. 43.) Jan. 15. Tuesday. We had a long time churning today. Beginning at about sunrise, we churned until 1:30 P.M. before the butter came. The fog and dampness had got into the cream. Wrote to Theresa. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 47. S.S. 43.) Jan. 16. Wednesday. Wrote to Calvin & Ada. (T.S.R. 29. 2 P.M. 47. S.S. 43.) Jan. 17. Thursday. It has been a cold, windy and cloudy day. Nellie stayed with me while Alice went to the Ladies Aid at Mrs. McGary\u27s. The night is rainy. Wrote to Willie. Hannah and Ida, and received a letter from Mr. Pascoe. (T.S.R. 33. 2 P.M. 49. S.S. 48.) Jan. 18. Friday. Have written to Horace and received letter from Ida. She tells of a Home Missionary box received from the Cheerful workers of Santa Cruz. (T.S.R. 36. 2 P.M. 49. S.S. 44.) Jan. 19. Saturday. Wrote to Theresa and received a letter from her, Ada and Mrs. Kelly. Theresa is better. (T.S.R. 27. 2 P.M. 47. S.S. 43.) Jan. 20. Sabbath. A cloudy afternoon. Attended S. school, and received letters from Boston children. (T.S.R. 29. 2 P.M. 53. S.S. 45.) Jan. 21. Monday. Still cloudy. Wrote to Ada and received letters from Calvin and Mr. Pascoe. Ida sent a pkg. of hdkfs. to be distributed - delayed Christmas gifts. (T.S.R. 34. 2 P.M. 52. S.S. 50.) Jan. 22. Tuesday. A cloudy morning. Wrote to Hannah and Calvin. (T.S.R. 37. 2 P.M. 50. S.S. 47.) Jan. 23. Wednesday. Wrote to Susie Pascoe - a birthday letter - and to Willie. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 53. S.S. 47.) Jan. 24. Thursday. The bell tolled this morning for Allen Le Faber, who died last night, aged 62. He has been sick for months with what was supposed to be cancer of the bowels, and has been a great sufferer. Mrs. Tice and Miss Clements called to borrow black clothes for Mrs. Le Faber. Wrote to Ida and Theresa and received a letter from Uncle. Lizzie McLellan has been fourth child - all daughters - born this month. (T.S.R. 32. 2 P.M. 52. S.S. 48.) Page 327 1889. Jan. 25. Friday. The funeral of Mr. Le Faber was today at Clements. None of us attended but Mary. Wrote to Uncle and Horace and received a letter from Ida. (T.S.R. 33. 2 P.M. 53. S.S. 50.) Jan. 26. Saturday. Mrs. Green called. (T.S.R. 35. 2 P.M. 58. S.S. 53.) Jan. 27. Sabbath. Today and yesterday have been bright and sunny. I have gladly attended S. school. Came across a beautiful saying of Spurgeon\u27s - it is this : If we measure distance by time, we are not far from home . I like Spurgeon - he seems so spiritual minded. Received letters from Hannah and Willie. (T.S.R. 33. 2 P.M. 58. S.S. 53.) Jan. 28. Monday. Have written to Willie and Lizzie McLellan and received letters from Ada, Theresa, Calvin and Uncle. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 55. S.S. 53.) Jan. 29. Tuesday. Have written to Ada and Calvin and received letters from Mr. Pascoe and Horace. (T.S.R. 32. 2 P.M. 56. S.S. 52.) Jan. 30. Wednesday. Have written to Hannah and to Lilly Greve - a birthday letter. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 57. S.S. 52.) Jan. 31. Thursday. We have sunny days and icy mornings. Wrote to Ida and Theresa. (T.S.R. 31. 2 P.M. 57. S.S. 50.) Feb. 1. Friday. Susie Pascoe is to begin to sew today as she is five years old. She is ambitious and enterprising - has been looking forward to this day for months. Wrote to Horace. (T.S.R. 35. 2 P.M. 57. S.S. 52.) Feb. 2. Saturday. Nellie is four years old today - bright and active - but small and rather delicate - quick to learn and very observing. Rev. and Mrs. Thomas came to Susie\u27s today, to stay one month. He is to preach as a candidate and they are to go about and make the acquaintances of the people. (T.S.R. 35. 2 P.M. 60. S.S. 54.) Feb. 3. Sunday. A bright springlike day. We have attended meeting. Rev. Thomas preached from the words, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian . The church held a meeting after service and agreed to give him $40. for a month\u27s trial preaching. Mrs. Thomas has a class of music scholars at Galt, and they think if they live here, she can continue to teach them by going over there occasionally. As usual, Geo. Locke is obstinate and will agree to nothing. Received letters from Theresa, Ada and Hannah. Theresa is greatly improved in health. (T.S.R. 34. 2 P.M. 62.
