Development of non-professional scenic dance 1945 - 1968

This master thesis surveys historical development of non-professional art of dance in the Czechoslovak Socialistic Republic during politically complicated era after the Second World War. It follows trends of scenic dance and dance education, initially influenced by social realism and subsequently by the arrival of jazz and modern dance techniques. It summarizes facts about organisational provision of non-professional activities in the field of art, including the system of displays, festivals and competitions. It brings an outline of the state of dance education in the area of spare-time activity. Thus it allows to look into the era that is stigmatized by today?s prejudice caused by the same black and white vision for which the era itself had been noted
