The use of cementitious composites as a building material is one of the most used resources since ancient times thanks to the physical, mechanical and chemical properties that it offers. In contrast, cementitious composites reinforced with cellulosic fibers also possess good properties and its production system is more sustainable. The most important problem that arises from the union of Portland cement with vegetable fibers is the degradation of these produced by the calcium hydroxide released during the hydration reaction of the cement. This fact, added to the loss of fiber adhesion to the matrix, due to changes of humidity in the environment, limits the uses of the fiber cement of plant origin exclusively to interior spaces.
