HEMIPLEGIA LARÍNGEA GRAU IV EM EQUINO: RELATO DE CASO

This work has the objective of a case of a 16-year-old mare who came to the veterinary hospital of the UFPB, diagnosed with grade 4 laryngeal hemiplegia. The animal arrived at the prosthetic Hospital in lateral decubitus with a history of respiratory noise after an accomplishment of exercise, raising suspicion by veterinarians based on history and clinical signs of esophageal obstruction, rabies and laryngeal hemiplegia. Being asked for some complementary tests by the veterinarians to arrive at the diagnosis and carry out the specific treatment, considering that the animal already arrived at the hospital with a traqueotube. Hemogram, serum biochemistry, urinalysis and respiratory endoscopy were performed, and it was observed in leukogram in which leukocytosis was present due to neutrophilia. Increased AST and AF and albumin decrease in serum biochemistry and in urinalysis was observed by urine acidified and isostenuric. The case of closed laryngeal hemiplegia through respiratory endoscopy, in which the abduction and adduction movements of the left arytenoid cartilage were not observed. Thus, it is a palliative treatment with dexamethasone, gentamicin and ceftiofur. However, the animal died 20 days after the start of treatment. Concluding that this disease leads to damages without performance of the animal, as well as the treatment used for the animal, other clinical-surgical treatment is not recommended.Este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar um caso, de uma égua de 16 anos, atendida no hospital veterinário da UFPB, diagnósticada com hemiplegia laríngea de grau 4. O animal chegou ao Hospital prostada em decúbito lateral com um histórico de ruídos respiratórios após a realização de exercício, levantando a suspeita pelos veterinários com base no histórico e sinais clínico de obstrução traqueal, raiva e hemiplegia laríngea. Sendo solicitado alguns exames complementares pelos veterinários para que chegasse ao diagnóstico e realizar o tratamento específico, tendo em vista que o animal já chegou ao hospital com um traqueotubo. Foram realizados hemograma, bioquímica sérica, urinálise e endoscopia respiratória, sendo observado alterações no leucograma em que apresentava uma leucocitose por neutrofilia, aumento de AST e FA e baixa de albumina na bioquímica sérica e na urinálise foi constatada que a urina apresentava acidificada e isostenúrica. Sendo o caso de hemiplegia laríngea fechado através da endoscopia respiratória, na qual não foram constatados os movimentos de abdução e de adução da cartilagem aritenóide esquerda. Foi-se instituido tratamento paliativo com dexametasona, gentamicina e ceftiofur. Porém o animal veio a óbito com vinte dias após o início do tratamento. Conclui-se que essa doença leva a prejuízos no desempenho do animal, bem como o tratamento utilizado proporciona alívio, não sendo recomendado outro tratamento clínico-cirúrgico
