The idiosyncratic reactions correspond to quantitatively abnormal responses to certain chemicals, caused by genetic alterations. The animal may have an adverse response at low doses, non-toxic, or have an extremely strong response at higher doses. Adverse reactions have been described occasionally in dogs and cats, and are mainly observed when there are associations of chemotherapy sulfa and trimethoprim.
