Polarisation induite par collision atomique dans un état excité. Influence du spin nucléaire

In a crossed-beam experiment, an inelastic process of the form A* + B → A*' + B (A* is an unpolarized excited state of atom A, B is a spherical atomic perturber) can induce a polarization in the atomic state A*'. A general expression has been established to predict the polarization gained by A*'. The case where atom A has a non-zero nuclear spin is taken into account in the calculation. It has been shown that the nuclear spin reduces the polarization induced in the state A*' by the collisional transfer A* → A*'. The predicted polarization effect of A*' has been illustrated for two examples : fine structure transitions 4 P½ → 4 P 3/2 of potassium induced by He, and 2P1/2 → 2P3/2 of fluorine induced by H+ .Dans une expérience de faisceaux croisés, un processus inélastique de la forme A* + B → A*' + B (A* état excité non polarisé d'un atome A, B perturbateur atomique sphérique) a pour effet de polariser l'état atomique A*' peuplé par collision. L'expression générale prédisant le taux de polarisation acquis par A*' a été établie. Le cas où l'atome A possède un spin nucléaire est pris en compte dans le calcul. Nous avons montré que ce spin a pour effet de réduire le taux de polarisation induit dans l'état A*' par le transfert collisionnel A* → A*'. L'effet de polarisation de A*' prédit ci-dessus de façon générale a été illustré sur deux exemples : les transitions de structure fine 4 P1/2 → 4 P3/2 du potassium induite par He, et 2P1/2 → 2P3/2 du fluor induite par H+
