The excitonic emission of Cadmium Sulfide crystals excited by very intense light sources (lasers) has been studied. In these experimental conditions, the most intense line of the luminescence spectrum is the emission due to the recombination of excitons with simultaneous emission of longitudinal optical phonons (indirect emission). This experimental fact has been explained : When the luminescence of CdS is excited by the ultraviolet light of a ruby laser followed by a KDP crystal (single photon absorption), the indirect excitonic emission is stimulated and becomes the most important emission line.
