Two Concepts of Engineering Education: the Analysis from the Competence Approach Perspective

The paper deals with the comparative analysis of the two concepts of engineering education – the fundamental and the professional. Such comparison has not being analyzed in scientific literature before, which suggests the innovative feature of the research. The methodological basis of the research incorporates the analytical and conceptual studies. The international standards of engineering education declare the graduates’ professional competences as the main quality criterion. Therefore, the professional competences should become the main objective of engineering education. However, a lot of top managerial structures of the engineering education system and its separate modules still maintain the out-of–date concept of fundamental engineering education. The detailed analysis conducted by the author proves the irrelevance of the given concept to the goals of innovative reorganization of the education in question.В статье приводится детальное сравнение двух концепций инженерного образования – фундаментализации и профессионализации. Работа имеет новаторский характер, поскольку подобное сопоставление до сих пор не было представлено в мировой научной литературе. Методологическими основаниями работы являются аналитические и концептуальные исследования. Мировые стандарты инженерного образования декретируют главным критерием качества подготовки выпускника втуза его профессиональную компетентность. В соответствии с этим генеральной линией инженерного образования должна стать его профессионализация. Однако многие топ-структуры отдельных модулей и системы инженерного образования в целом сохраняют приверженность морально устаревшей концепции фундаментализации инженерного образования.
