Extreme short time precipitation, heavy rains, is one of the climate extremes expected to occur more frequently and become more intense in a warmer climate. Heavy rains already affect several Swedish municipalities and damages due to excess runoff water can be substantial, especially where adapting measures has yet to be taken. It is argued that there is a need for tools and support, to help and pursue the issue of climate change adaptation on a local level. This study identifies tools that from the perspective of flooding due to heavy rains, aims to support municipalities’ ability to adapt.
