Vietnamese Names and Their Changes after the Acquisition of Citizenship of the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with both the basic functions of Vietnamese names and their historical development to the present. The issue of changes following the acquisition of Czech citizenship comes to the forefront. The general part deals with the structure of the Vietnamese name, where their tasks are described in detail. For Czechs, primarily officials who get in contact with foreigners every day, especially with Vietnamese, the obstacle is not only in addressing them but also pronunciation as well as in the order of individual components of the name. This problem still persists after Vietnamese people have acquired the status of a citizen of the Czech Republic, mainly the one and a half and the second generation. I also focus in-depth on the rights and regulations of the changes that the Vietnamese have to face with dual citizenship, more specifically in Vietnamese names, where the deletion of the components and gender-specific last name are included. The practical part of the thesis consists of empirical research, where the interviews investigate the attitudes and opinions of both young Vietnamese who were born or grew up and fully integrated into the Czech society as well as the older generation who are the ones who choose the names for their children.
