Approximately 70% of neuroendocrine tumors are gastroenteropancreatic tumors. Over 50% of GEP NETs are carcinoids. The most common location of carcinoid tumor outside the gastrointestinal tract, is the main bronchus. The most frequent symptoms reported by patients from the analyzed group hospitalized in our Clinic are: flushing, headache, sudden hot flush, palpitations, stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting and weakness. In reaching the diagnosis of carcinoid, biochemical tests play a fundamental role. The amount of specific markers, such as 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) (in 24-hour urine test) and serotonin (in plasma) are measured.
