The City of Vancouver, in partnership with TransLink, VANOC, and Transport Canada, appointed the Civil Engineering Department of the University of British Columbia (UBC) to conduct the monitoring of transportation through the Vancouver Downtown peninsula during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. UBC was well poised to take on this challenge given the expertise and experience available within the Civil Engineering Department, as well as access to the 84 engineering graduate and undergraduate student supervisors and surveyors hired to fulfill the relatively large study scope within the effective two-week window of the Games.
