Experiencing Latin American: CDR Blurb

Naomi Garcia IDST190.007 Group Two 30 November 2019 Movie Project Reflection: Group Two (El Papel: Escena 5) The movie that we, Group two, decided to base our film off of was El Norte, the story of two siblings going North into America in search of a better life. A scene from El Norte movie that prompted one of our scenes in El Papel was specifically when Enrique gave up the opportunity to work in Chicago to see his sister Rosa in the hospital before she died. In our movie, El Papel, we incorporated this by filming a scene that featured the main character, Paola, throwing away her paper that she had went through great lengths to finish in order to take her ill roommate to Campus Health. The purpose behind this scene was to incorporate that powerful moment that El Norte had featured. Showcasing the power of love, family and more importantly, the struggle of having to lose something in order to help those that you care about. In order to produce this film, we used a large majority of our knowledge gained in class, especially from the readings and what we have learned about the Spanish language. Through the readings and the film, we were able to demonstrate a form of struggle that many Latin Americans face in a way that is comprehensible for others that do not know or understand the full complexity of the issues in Latin America
